Another great ride under our belts!

To me when I see others climbing up that steep hill and riding 80km then pitching a tent on the beach a pang of jealousy erupts. Because I just had to push my bike up that hill. And then, later that night when I’m tucked into that comfy bed, I think about what I have accomplished today.

I DID make it up that hill, and I DID ride (mostly ride but pushed my bike occasionally)50km and it was tough. Or in the case of this particular day, the las 15km was really tough.

The first part of the day was smooth sailing, hard packed or roads, flat level road and light traffic.

Then I knew at about 39km there was a “bump”.

Our planning map of choice, Komoot see our profile here shows the red line at 15% and yes I saw several cycle tourists climbing that hill 🚲. Fully loaded. And some gravel mountain bikers as well.

Me? I walked it.

As we planned this route we had a bit of a concern because of the steepness and the remoteness of the trail. And it is a trail here, a gravel trail. Rough gravel. We had thought it may be a good place to pull out the drone.

HOWEVER, it was the track for an endurance race. There were people everywhere.

running, walking, and there were trail Marshall’s every couple of kilometres. AND as it turned out, the finish line was just 100 metres from our accommodations.

some sites along the way

You can see in this photo, the narrow strip of land that is the beach and boardwalk of the previous photo. This is the first “mini bump”.

Now we are in San José for 2 nights.
