Today was a great day.

It’s 7.00 am and I can feel a bead of sweat form between my eyebrows and dribble down to the end of my nose.

So starts the day.

We ventured out and had a wonderful day full of adventure.

2 River crossings and a beach ride.

We enjoyed our stay at Hotel Coyote with lovely pool even though the air unit sounded like a Teletype machine.

Along the way to the first crossing we had a relaxing time stopping to watch the blue Jay like birds. White throat magpie Jay.

We headed toward our first crossing. you just have to realize that you are going to get wet and investigate the best way to get across.

Bob waded in and and it was at best knee deep so he rolled his bike through then came back for mine. I took off my front panniers only because they were so low.

As we cycled along to our next crossing I spotted a caballo (cowboy) and several cattle. There was a cattle drive. There cowboys, and approx 50 head of cattle coming directly towards it us.

But what was more interesting is that there was 3 GIANT construction dump trucks behind the cattle.

the cowboy motioned to us to go into the nearest driveway. He then expertly closed and locked the gate.

with us safely behind the gate they held the cattle there and permitted the giant trucks to go by.

Once past the cowboy came back and let us out. And they carried on their way!

Bonus was the trucks and cattle were wet so we knew they had just done the second crossing so w know it could be done.

The second crossing was a little more interesting because we couldn’t see the road in the opposite side of the River!

The key is to go upstream and swing back around in an arc.

which we didn’t do because it really wasn’t that deep. mid thigh high.

We removed our panniers and made several trips across with bikes, panniers over our heads.

e were so proud of ourselves for completing the two crossings. High fives all around!

Next the beach ride!

Beautiful.

we planned the beach in time with low tide and by doing the beach it saved us valuable kilometres and hills.

With approximately 20 kilometres under our wet belts we knew we had 10 in to go before checking in to our hotel.

We had time for a coffee and pastry.

We checked on Google to find the nearest cafe and set our sights on a relaxing coffee and some snacks.

That’s when things started to unravel.

Bob’s bike started making weird popping and snapping noises. He thinks his back bearing may be toast. With all the water and sand he thinks something may have gotten in there.

Then I got charged and bitten by a dog!

And went to see a doctor.

Pit Bull ran out and grabbed my leg.

2 puncture wounds

The owner took me to the doctor’s office and paid for treatment, antibiotics and bandaids from the doctor.

She called a taxi for Bob and our bikes.

And took us to our accommodations.

Everything seems to be okay.

I’ll keep you updated.

Bob checked. there is no Rabies in Costa Rica.

And

we have our travel tetanus shots updated last year, so we’re safe with that

and

I got anti biotic , the size of horse pills, so where safe with that.

The doctor gave me,

antibacterial scrub 3 times per day

Amoxicillin tablets 2 times per day

And waterproof band aids.

We were having such a great day. Bummer

We are in playa Carmen at Lapaslazuli hotel and suites. Santa Theresa area.

It’s like the Wild West here.

Mud and potholes. 4 wheelers, dirt bikes, with surf boards, cars, trucks and people walking the narrow streets.

Bob went out to get groceries and said there were 2 howler monkeys on the electric wires howling and people seemed to be oblivious to them.

Mostly Young people for sure. Surfers and dudes.

There is one narrow road through town. Dirt, mud , pot holes, and I mean 4 wheel drive required potholes. And they are clogged with traffic and people.

Feeling good and had a great day
