It's 8:16am, we've left the comfort of the hotel and hit the road, biked 1.3km and I can feel a bead of sweat slowly streaming down my forehead into the corner of my eye. My back is wet and we have 63.2km to go before the end of the day. Needless to say it's humid.

Now it's 4.02pm and 5 hours on the bike we have just finished setting up camp. The tent is secure and the sleeping bags are placed. Just in time for a mug of beer, some food then hit the sack for another round of cycling tomorrow.

Falling off your bike.

After one of our stops I headed out only to hear a stream of expletives coming from Bob. He had just stopped to let me catch up and to take a gulp of water.

I looked around and Bob was lying in the middle of the lane with his bike on him. FYI that's a37 pound bike, and 50-ish pounds of gear. My first though was... Thank goodness there were no cars (or lumber trucks) coming.

With a bloody knee and a bruised rib he cleaned up his knee with some alcohol wipes and we pressed on.

Apparently, when swinging his leg over the bike, his shoe lace caught on something and he just tipped over with 50 pounds of gear and his bike landing on top of him. On the hot, hard, rough, asphalt.

I would class today as an easy day. The morning was rough. Hot, humid and Hills. The trifecta of cycling. After we stopped in Awanui For an early lunch. The road after lunch, seemed more welcoming and less steep. Only to be greeted with a slap in the face of a hill for the last couple of kilometres.

Tonight's abode, Pukenui Holiday Park.
