We arrived inout Airbnb and recently celebrated our Christmas with our son, Xander and his girlfriend, Daphne.

What a difference celebrating in Centro America vs North America. I didn’t feel the need to buy, buy, buy. Here, in La fortuna, there were many celebrations on Christmas Eve rather than Christmas Day. We were serenaded by a neighborhood party pumping out the greatest hits from his sub-woofer enhanced car stereo. We thought it was some sort of block party going on so we ventured out to find 3 young men drinking beer and pumping up tunes in the parking space of the house next to us.

It didn’t last long and then it was all quiet.

Christmas day was no different and the garbage truck came for a pick up at around 8.30 am.

La Fortuna is the centre for touring activities in Costa Rica and we’ve been obliging and have taken part in:

Our ATV adventure was fun and offered several different opportunities. WE travelled through the jungle on some steep terrain, swam in the river, went to an indigenous community and walked in the lava fields. At times we had to drive on the main road and there was a steady stream of traffic behind us as we snaked along the roadway.

The view of the Volcano Arenal was lovely and bonus was we didn’t have to hike all the way up the mountain.

The sloth walk was also interesting and with the help of our expert guide saw several sloths. The guide brings along a spotting scope to give a close up view of the sloths in the tree tops.

we also saw some poison dart frogs. And the strawberry poison frog.

There was also a pair of black and white owls.

We are continuing to enjoy the beautiful weather and fascinating sites. We’ll keep you updated.
