Wow...

An early start and a trail wind makes for a great day.

We unexpectedly had excellent conditions for riding today and rather than settle for the campsite at 72km we pushed on to the village at 105km.

Not without some hiccups though.

We broke camp very early, in the dark because we had to be on the beach at low tide. And low tide was 9am. This have us a window to ride on the beach between 7am and 11am.

We were 3km from the page ment at sea level on the east coast and had to get to the west coast. The only thing in our way was some volcanic landscape.

We left pushing our bikes or of the Tapotupotu campsite and continued up... Upppp.up.

Then onto Te Paki Stream Road also called Kauaeparaoa stream. And let me tell you we cycled up the sandy stream bed. Some parts were very good and hard parked but some sections were soft and deep. At one point one section was very deep and much deeper than I thought and my panniers were floating. Bob only wished he had a video of it. Me shouting TOO DEEP. DON'T COME THIS WAY.

the good news is the Ortlieb panniers live up to they water proof name as all my stuff was dry!
