We found having a car liberating and what would be a full day ride can easily be done in about an hour or so.

We packed up and headed to the beach in Mehuin, on the Pacific Coast. It was a beautiful sunny day but the red flag was up on the beach and the beach closed for swimming etc.

What a treat getting in a car and driving somewhere. We were there in just over an hour and the surf was pounding. So strong that the lifeguards even whistled out one person who was playing in the waves too far from shore.

We hiked along the beach and then settled in to have picnic and then head back to Villarrica.
